2 Samuel 22:33
For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect.
Recently, I’ve realized I’ve fallen into a trap of engaging with God as if He’s a genie, rather than the all powerful creator of the universe that He is. I have prayed for God to grant my wishes, although they may be good wishes like courage, wisdom and peace. I think I know what I need in order to overcome the challenges in my life and ask God for the tools to do just that. I have forgotten that God has a plan for me and at best, I only know the minor details of that plan. I need to stop praying for what I think I need and start praying for God to use me for His good purpose and what He knows I need.
Since this realization, my prayer life has changed. I have always begun with prayers of worship and thankfulness but now instead of asking for what I want, I simply ask for God’s help, “God, please use me for your purpose. Please grant me what I need to accomplish your will.”
This change in prayer life has brought an even greater sense of peace. I know I don’t have to figure it out. All I have to do is rely on Him. He knows what He is going to do. I just have to get out of His way
