I am currently enjoying a study with Living Hope men as we watch Love Like That by Dr.Les Parrot. Dr. Parrot outlines six steps to work on to be more loving like Jesus. First we are taught that we need to be more mindful of people around us. I know it’s easy for me to be wrapped up in my own thoughts and my own agenda which causes me to miss what is right in front of me. How many times have I missed what the Lord has put in front of me, neglected the important message or missed the opportunity to deeply listen. I am learning to slow down as the Holy Spirit calms my mind and opens my eyes to others instead of myself.
Secondly, we are encouraged to consider how approachable we are. It is normal to gravitate toward people we are comfortable with as we long for belonging, but those who need us are often outside our comfort zone. Jesus was acceptable to everyone, and we need to work to be more like Him in this way. Often my pride or fear keep me from being inclusive. I need the Love of Christ to overcome my human weakness. Through daily prayer I can learn to humble my heart, love my enemies and learn to radically love like Jesus.
