When I was much younger, I remember some friends would often ask what my favorite Bible verse was. I would immediately fire off with Romans 8:28 and you always get the question of why. But never do you get asked what's your second or third... the Bible is chuck full of great verses, but I have to say on a very personal level that Hebrews 13 became a very touching and compelling second favorite for me.
Why you ask? Because the more you fall away from God or God's people sometimes it is those very people that God puts in your path to bring you back... Again... why? Because that's what God has called us as Christians, to do!! We are the very ones who are supposed to reach out and be the very best for Him. That means giving our time, talents, or ANYTHING God lays on your heart to help someone else out. Romans 12:10 talks about showing brotherly love by way of affection and being devoted ... That should be our witness and our testimony that I am/we are there anytime we are called upon!
I had to relearn this the hard way... I had been out of church for several years and in a dark place... thinking life was all about my kids. Like many people today I went through the motions going to work and coming home and doing my best to live for my kids. Until one day God put these very people that I speak of in my life. People that emulate what these verses talk about. I guess my point is many times throughout your life you are not going to know what God asks of you unless you open your heart and listen to the people around you... After all, that is one of the ways God speaks to us. We ain't Moses here you know!
So Step Up and be ready to give yourself to your brother, your sister, or even a stranger when you least expect it!
Romans 12:10 "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another"
Hebrews 13:1 "Let brotherly love continue."
