What Can I do for the church?

When I was a child going to church every Sunday, I never thought about all the things that happen “behind the scenes” to keep a church going. Only in the last five years have I experienced first-hand what is required. There are a lot of people doing a lot of work that is never seen by many members. Many people may ask, “How do I get more involved and what can I do?”

The first thing is to take stock of your talents. In 1st Peter 4:10 it says, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” Then talk to the pastor or another church board member about what you feel you can do for the church. They will suggest opportunities for you that use your gifts.

My work at church has been very fulfilling to me. I feel that it is my obligation to use my skills for the benefit of God and the church. If you are in doubt, feel free to talk to the pastor or another member.
